Western Nebraska Community College

March, 2025

Scottsbluff, NE

Beckenhauer Construction is proud to partner with Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) on the renovation of the John N. Harms Center Health Sciences Building in Scottsbluff, NE. Designed by Wilkins Architecture Design Planning, L.L.C., this project is set to modernize and enhance the learning environment for students and staff, transforming the existing space into a cutting-edge educational facility that will better serve the needs of the college and the broader community.

The renovation encompasses the demolition and remodeling of approximately 33,510SF of the Harms Building, with a major highlight being the addition of a 1,160SF vestibule and entry link that will improve accessibility and functionality for students, faculty, and visitors. A significant portion of the work involves subdividing an 8,300SF, two-story space, making way for new and improved facilities. Once complete, the updated building will feature state-of-the-art lab rooms, mock operating rooms, simulation rooms, additional classrooms, and modern staff offices. These upgrades will provide hands-on learning opportunities for students in various healthcare and technical fields, equipping them with the skills and experience needed for success in their careers.

Beyond interior renovations, the project also includes extensive site work, such as demolition, utility relocation, grading, and paving. These improvements will not only enhance the functionality of the building but also contribute to the overall infrastructure of the college, ensuring a smooth flow of operations for years to come. Throughout the renovation process, Beckenhauer Construction is carefully coordinating efforts to allow adjacent areas of the building to remain occupied and fully operational. This requires meticulous planning and collaboration to minimize disruptions and maintain a safe and efficient construction environment.

Construction is well underway, with significant progress being made across multiple areas of the site. Currently, the first coat of paint has been applied to the walls, and the ceiling grid has been installed in the existing renovation area. In Area C, crews are preparing drywall for finishing, while in-wall rough-in for electrical and plumbing is progressing on the second floor. At the entry link, framing is steadily advancing, shaping the structure that will provide a more accessible and welcoming entrance.

This renovation marks an exciting step forward for Western Nebraska Community College, reflecting the institution’s commitment to providing high-quality education in a dynamic and modern setting.

Beckenhauer Construction is honored to be part of this transformative project and looks forward to seeing the lasting impact it will have on the WNCC community. As construction continues, our team remains committed to delivering a high-quality facility that meets the evolving needs of students, faculty, and staff. We take pride in our ability to manage complex projects while maintaining a focus on quality, safety, and efficiency. With each milestone reached, we move closer to the completion of a space that will serve as a cornerstone of education and innovation for years to come.
